Born Kenneth McBride in Chicago, Illinois, "Chi" is a nickname for his hometown. He was raised in the Seventh-day Adventist church and attended Shiloh Academy, now known as Chicago SDA Academy, a Seventh-day Adventist school. He graduated from high school at the age of 16. McBride originally planned to pursue a career in music. After studying several instruments and singing with gospel choirs in his native Chicago, he relocated to Atlanta in 1986 to work for AT&T as a billing clerk.
He also has a son who goes by "Heartless" McBride who is an American battle rapper in the battle league GrindTimeNow.
<Chi McBride’s well known in two circles; he’s a highly sought character actor who’s appeared in a number of feature films and hit TV shows, and he’s also known for having one of the biggest sneaker fiendisms among sneakerheads right now. I love his play and this is the first time I ever know he is such a big fanatic of sneakers, which makes me feel like closer to him. We both love Air Force 1 shoes.
